Trauma-Informed Writing Workshop
Join writer, educator, and founder of The Common Room, Chelsey Everest, for a six-week writing series dedicated to exploring our difficult stories in a peer-supported, compassionate environment.
a safe + supportive space to explore our difficult stories
Originally designed to offer her college students a safe space to share stories of campus sexual assault, Chelsey provides a specific framework to help participants integrate their trauma narratives based on mindfulness techniques and meditation philosophy. By developing their writing around The Four Pillars of Practice, participants begin to examine their stories from a place of intentionality and awareness. The group serves to ensure each individual feels seen, heard, and valued, while also holding each individual accountable for their own self-work. While this workshop by no means acts as or supplants formal therapy and/or professional support, its aim is to foster empowerment and healing among its participants.
Since its inception at the University of Pennsylvania, the workshop has been presented and offered on numerous college campuses, and the full series is now being offered through The Common Room for the first time. Each session will use intentional writing prompts, guided meditations, and group discussion as a basis for practice.
